STEVENSVILLE, Md. – The South Carolina Army National Guard has recently taken delivery of their second TICS® system to be used by the 2-151 Aviation Battalion. This fly-away communications package provides a portable solution that maintains continuity of operations (COOP) for communications in the event traditional terrestrial systems become overloaded or unavailable.
The TICS (Tactical Incident Communications System) by Incident Communication Solutions, LLC (ICS) is a rapidly deployable communication system that utilizes satellite-based Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity and provides first responders the capability to communicate via broadband VSAT connections under any conditions. Built with convenience simplicity and portability in mind, TICS provides access to phones, data systems, video teleconference and faxes over a satellite connection regardless of location or access to traditional infrastructure.
The South Carolina Army National Guard 2-151 Aviation Battalion is utilized in a variety of roles for Homeland Defense missions as well as during disaster relief operations. Battalion 2-151 is fielded under the 59th Aviation Troop Command which is responsible for peace time leadership of all Army Aviation units as well as supporting wartime mobilizations of these units.
The 2-151 Aviation Battalion’s TICS system will be used with their field operations trailer. The TICS system includes a Cisco Integrated Services (ISR) Router, five IP Telephone sets, and a roof-mounted .96m satellite dish. The TracStar960 mobile antenna provides auto-acquisition of the satellite, offering soldiers a fast setup. Once on scene, typical setup of the entire system takes under 30 minutes.
